Trophy matchwinner calls time on Fleet stay

CHRIS McPHEE ROCKS THE FLEET AS LIAM DAISH REVEALS HE WILL NOT BE STAYING…

Liam Daish has today confirmed that Fleet favourite Chris McPhee will not be extending his stay at Stonebridge Road.

“Chris told me he was moving to the West Country for family reasons,” Daish commented. “He’s getting married in the summer and his wife is from the area. He said that if nothing comes up football-wise, he’ll take time out and follow another path.”

Daish continued: “I had been very patient, and we did all we could to keep Chris. I offered him what would have been the best contract at the club but he indicated it wasn’t about money. I’ve thanked him for his great season. I was a little surprised he didn’t want to kick on, but everyone is different.”

McPhee, 25, who joined the Fleet last summer after rejecting a contract ? ironically in the West Country ? at Torquay, was named Gravesend Reporter Player of the Year in 2007-08 and of course entered Fleet folklore with the winning goal against his former club in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley. He made 55 appearances in the Fleet shirt, scoring 12 goals.
