Aveley 1 Fleet 1

Craig Stone plays in Fleet’s opening pre-season friendly…

The clash between former colleagues Liam Daish and Alan Kimble ended all square tonight as Fleet fought back to earn a 1-1 draw at The Mill Field, Aveley, tonight.

And manager Daish sprung a surprise with the inclusion of midfielder Craig Stone whose Fleet career was cut short by injury in 2009 and who had also turned out for Gillingham this pre-season.

But Stone was on the bench to begin in a Fleet squad that featured trialist goalkeeper James Dunn (Arsenal youth) as well as familiar faces including Michael West, Scott Ginty, Derek Duncan, Chris Henry, Dean Pooley as well as youngster Tom Phipp and new signings Paul Lorraine and Ram Marwa. Also in the starting line-up were former Gravesend Grammar School pupil and Scottish U20 international Andy Cave-Brown (pictured), recently released by Leyton Orient, and ex-Aveley, Brentwood and Dagenham winger Joao Carlos.

The Fleet fell behind against the run of play but shook things up in the second half, bringing on Stone, ex-Grays goalkeeper Preston Edwards and former Stevenage youth Tyrone Sealey, who has also played for Maidenhead and Hitchin and trialed for AFC Wimbledon.

And Fleet fans got their first taste of what they hope will be a hotshot Scott Ginty as the striker netted the equaliser after good build-up play from Sealey. And another old Fleet face popped up in the form of Danny Slatter, in the Aveley squad under former mentor Kimble.

TEAM: Dunn (Edwards 45), Cave-Brown (Corneille 60), Duncan, Lorraine (Sherlock 85), Pooley, Carlos (Sealey 45), Henry (Stone 51), Marwa (Davenport 75), West, Phipp, Ginty (Simpson 81).
