Clifford completes Fleet retentions

The final piece in Fleet’s summer retentions programme is announced today as the club confirms that Billy Clifford has agreed a new deal into the 2023/24 season.

The former Havant & Waterlooville midfielder, Dennis Kutrieb’s only mid-season signing in 2022/23, will come up against the team he last won the Vanarama National South title with, having helped Wealdstone to promotion in 2019/20.

The 30-year-old returns to the National League he last played in with Boreham Wood in 2018 though he has, of course, played at higher levels for Walsall, Crawley Town, Antwerp and Colchester United, having turned professional at Chelsea.

Such was Dennis Kutrieb’s faultless transfer business in summer 2022 that Clifford was the only addition to the Fleet squad throughout last season

Clifford played 17 times for the Fleet last season after his move from Havant, opening his goal account in the 7-2 victory over Worthing, and he picked up his second South winners’ medal in April.

The squad as it stands ahead of new arrivals to be announced after June 30th is as follows:

Rakish Bingham
Ben Chapman
Billy Clifford
Shaq Coulthirst
Mark Cousins
Greg Cundle
Franklin Domi
Toby Edser
Harrison Firth
Chris Haigh
Haydn Hollis
