Ebbsfleet United have allowed Chris Sessegnon to go out on a 28-day loan to Cray Wanderers to get match practice. The 20-year-old full back/winger signed for the Fleet in August but has so far been limited to pre-season games and last week’s Kent Senior Cup tie at home to Tonbridge.
Fleet manager Steve Brown explained the reasons behind the move to EUFC.co.uk. “After signing Chris from Dover I was very conscious that he hadn’t played competitively since the beginning of January. I knew he was going to be short of match practice and isn’t as sharp as I know he can be due to the fact he has had a very disrupted pre-season.
“We have had a very hectic first few weeks and now it’s starting to settle down I feel it’s the right time for Chris to get some significant game time. The loan deal with Cray Wanderers is for 28 days and he will have three games in the first seven days of his loan which is exactly what he needs at this stage of the season.
“The difficulty for any player at Ebbsfleet is that whilst our training is of a very high tempo it can never replicate playing 90 minutes in a competitive match. Without a reserve side to keep those players unfortunate enough not to be playing fit we have to look very seriously about loaning our players out to get them match fit.”
Cray, in the Ryman League Premier Division, have games against Maidstone, Hampton & Richmond, East Thurrock, Bognor Regis Town and Grays Athletic coming up before the end of September. Sessegnon will link up with former Fleet midfielder Alex Stavrinou.
