Chris crosses his mark on new Fleet deal

Oxford City provided him with a promotion final medal and with the Fleet Chris Haigh won a title-winners’ medal in a momentous season for the goalkeeper, who is the latest player to sign fresh terms at the Kuflink Stadium.

Haigh, 26, follows Harrison Firth in joining Mark Cousins in the club’s goalkeepers’ union.

The former Concord Rangers keeper endured a torrid start to the 2022/23 campaign, suffering a double leg-break in the third game of the season at Eastbourne. He put in the rehab hours after that and made a remarkable, swift recovery, returning to the bench by November and playing in the Fleet’s Kent Senior Cup campaign in the New Year.

Having earned play-off glory with Heybridge Swifts in the past, Haigh repeated the feat during an emergency loan period with Oxford City. Having picked up his title-winners’ medal against them in April, he helped guide the Hoops past Worthing and St Albans City and into the National League alongside the Fleet.

The club is mindful that our goalkeepers will require regular football in the coming season and as such, mutually beneficial loan arrangements are in motion for both Chris and Harrison Firth to gain such playing time in 2023/24 while still available to us via recall arrangements.
