Daryl McMahon is looking forward to Monday evening’s Emirates FA Cup First Round draw after the Fleet picked up their second win at the Kuflink Stadium. And he wants another big EFL side at home to repeat what almost came to be in the first half against Doncaster Rovers last season.
“It’s brilliant,” he told BBC Radio Kent’s Matt Cole. “We did it last year and for 45 minutes against Doncaster we looked like we might give them a game and then second-half we fell apart a little bit. They were an excellent side on the day. Hopefully we get another big team at home, that’d be nice but we’re glad to be in the draw. We’d like to be at home if we can be.”
The Fleet boss was impressed by Bostik Premier Worthing’s ball retention and movement in the opening encounters, though felt his side contained that before stepping things up a gear.
“I thought the first 15-20 minutes, Worthing moved the ball really well like they do,” he said. “Defensively we were pretty good, the shape was good and we were clinical on the counter-attack and good with the ball ourselves. We stood strong especially after that 15/20-minute slow start. We believed in what we were doing, took control of the game and we were clinical after that. It was very important [to get the win]. We should have got more points than we have at home in the performances but we’re glad to win today.”
