All hands on Dec

Ebbsfleet United can today announce the loan signing of central defender Declan Skura from Wycombe Wanderers through to the end of the season.

The highly rated 21-year-old has trodden a similar path to our previous loanee from the Chairboys, Jack Wakely, having been at Chelsea as a youngster before moving on to Reading’s academy.

The centre-back – described as a big talent with huge EFL potential – moved into non-league as a teenager, playing for Hanworth Villa in the Combined Counties League as well as representing Middlesex U18s before he stepped up two levels to join Kingstonian in November 2020 at the age of 18.

He made 40 appearances for the K’s before a trial at League One Wycombe last season quickly impressed the Chairboys coaching staff and he signed a contract at Adams Park in February 2023.

In addition to his mature and impressive performances for the Wycombe development squad, Skura has also appeared three times this season in the EFL Trophy against Crystal Palace, Stevenage and last week in a 2-1 win over West Ham United U21s to help the Chairboys into the last eight of the competition (pictured below).

Dennis Kutrieb told the Fleet website, “He is one we were first alerted to when we signed Jack Wakely in the summer. He is an exciting player with a definite big future ahead and will be able to go straight in at National League level just as Jack did for us in the early part of this season.”

Fleet’s latest signing – who will wear the No.26 shirt – added, “Any team I play for, I play with passion and I play for the badge. There’s a lot of points to play for and I know a lot about the National League and how competitive it will be. I take my career one step at a time so it’s all about my time with Ebbsfleet right now, to focus on training and to focus on getting in the matchday squad.”

We are fortunate to have a trusting and respectful relationship with Wycombe which results in really suitable loans that have been considered and built towards for months as opposed to reactive or rushed business in the window. The club really appreciates the work Matt Bloomfield, Sam Grace and Tom Holder at Wycombe put in and that they trust us with their exciting young players.
