Preview: Maidstone United

The lights of the Gallagher Stadium await once again as the Fleet resume local-derby duties with another trip to Maidstone United, this time with league points at stake.

Form guide
The Fleet are currently the most in-form side in the country after winning the last five league matches, with Saturday’s 1-0 win over Dagenham keeping the momentum going.

Maidstone have won two of their last five league matches, with three points secured against Dover Athletic on Boxing Day and current leaders Hornchurch just before the new year. The Stones have also picked up a point at Torquay United in that time but they lost at home to play-off rivals Hemel Hempstead Town at the weekend.

Maidstone are 11th in the table, four points off the play-off places having picked up 11 wins so far in this campaign.

Last time out
The reverse fixture in November saw the Fleet earn a 1-0 victory at the Kuflink Stadium with Ronny Nelson finding the back of the net just before the hour mark.

Who’s who
John Gilbert
is a key midfielder and currently the side’s top goalscorer with six. Arriving from Slough Town last year, Gilbert has also played for Walton & Hersham. During his time there, he played a key role in their promotion from the Isthmian South Central Division, via the play-offs.

Sam Corne is a long-established player at the Gallagher and club captain. The 29-year-old is in his eighth season with Maidstone following his arrival from Ashford Town. The midfielder has made nearly 200 appearances for the club since his debut and played a huge role in their FA Cup run two seasons ago. He has also played for Welling United and Braintree Town.
