The Fleet secured a spot in the DFDS Kent Senior Cup semi-final following a penalty shootout at the Kuflink Stadium – the fifth such shootout in cup competition this season.
Dominic Samuel earned the first chance of the match with a shot from an acute angle but that effort was deflected out for a corner.
Bromley found the opener with six minutes on the clock as George Evans’ effort from inside the area was slotted past Harrison Firth.
A great chance arrived for the Fleet as Samuel ran at pace down the right flank and skipped through the Bromley midfield to link up with Alex Aoraha – his shot was dispatched towards goal but Sam Long collected.
Anthony Stewart required all his defensive assets to halt an attack from Bromley and force a corner for the visitors, but the Fleet cleared their lines comfortably.
Samuel continued to threaten – his close-range effort was blocked by Long with Nathan Odokonyero’s hit on the rebound off target.
The Fleet headed into the break behind but came out to threaten and Kymani Thomas – earning his first start following a loan spell with Waltham Abbey – forced a save from Long, while Samuel’s next chance was also collected by the Bromley keeper.
Substitute Aaron Cosgrave, on for just two minutes, secured the equaliser when he latched on to a ball from the left and drilled it home.
Long had a busy last 10 minutes as he was forced to block shots from Cosgrave and Aoraha, while Maxx Manktelow nearly snatched it at the end – his effort just heading off target.
So the quarter-final headed to penalties and after his heroics in the National League Cup, Harrison Firth once again made his mark as he saved two penalties to help the Fleet to a 4-2 spot-kicks victory and a place in the semi-final against Tonbridge Angels.
