February kicks off with a visit to Yorkshire and the first match for the Fleet at The Shay since before the Covid lockdown of 2020. It’s not been quite that long for the hosts but Halifax are aiming to play their first league game on home soil since 10th December.
Form guide
The Fleet are looking to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat against Braintree Town at the Kuflink Stadium, having previously gone four games unbeaten in all competitions.
Halifax are eighth in the National League table as they push for the play-offs following a good run of form that has seen them go unbeaten since November in all competitions. Their away form is better than their home form, however, with seven wins and two defeats away compared to four wins, draws and defeats each at The Shay.
Last time out
Halifax relied on the only goal of the match at the Kuflink Stadium in the earlier meeting this season, that coming in the opening five minutes through Angelo Cappello. In the rearranged fixture against the Shaymen towards the back end of last season, which of course was played at Accrington Stanley, the Fleet secured a valuable point from a goalless affair in the penultimate fixture of the 2023/24 campaign.
Fleet go into this one with a good record at The Shay since Halifax Town became FC Halifax Town in 2008 and of course won that last visit in 2020 by 1-0.
Who’s who
Sam Johnson is Halifax’s longest serving player and he arrived at The Shay in 2017 after an earlier loan spell, since making more than 400 appearances with in excess of 140 clean sheets.
Andrew Oluwabori is a forward who started his career in Huddersfield Town’s youth academy before making the move to Peterborough in 2021. He had loan spells at Boreham Wood and Kettering Town before a move to Yeovil Town. He made the permanent move to The Shay ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and has since made 64 appearances, scoring nine goals.
Scott High recently rejoined on loan from Huddersfield Town (where he played with Mustapha Olagunju) for the remainder of the season. He has also enjoyed loan spells with Scottish Premiership side Ross County and League of Ireland Dundalk recently. Since his arrival the 23-year-old has featured 13 times with one goal.
The manager
Chris Millington was appointed as first-team manager back in 2022 following an assistant role to previous boss Pete Wild. FC Halifax Town is Millington’s first managerial role and he has won the FA Trophy and made the play-offs in his two seasons.
