After last Saturday’s trip to frozen Boston, it will be a lot closer and a little bit warmer for the Fleet fans heading to Woking this Saturday.
Form guide
In their previous four National League fixtures, the Cards have picked up two wins and two draws – and like the Fleet, Woking’s last result was a 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town. They are in 17th place in the National League table with seven wins but under new management have stopped the drop towards relegation and are now five games unbeaten in all competitions.
The Fleet will be looking to go three games unbeaten following the recent draws against Boston United and Yeovil.
Last time out
Woking scored three goals and took away three points in the reverse fixture at the Kuflink with Max Dyche (now returned to Northampton), Charley Kendall (now at Southend) and Ipswich loanee Matt Ward the men on the scoresheet. The trip to Kingfield last season ended in a 1-1 draw.
Who’s who?
Influential midfielder Dale Gorman joined from Barnet in the summer and he has featured 23 times for Woking in the National League this season. The versatile CDM and skipper has previous experience with Yeovil Town, Glentoran, Leyton Orient and Stevenage.
Inih Effiong is a recent return to the club from Braintree Town. The striker was at Woking in 2017/18 and 2021/22 and in between has played for Dover Athletic, Notts County, Aldershot Town and Dagenham & Redbridge. He has scored three times in five games since his return.
Recent new signings under Ardley include former Tonbridge man Tariq Hinds from Braintree, Lithuanian youth international Jokubas Mazionis on loan from Ipswich and forward Aiden O’Brien from Shelbourne.
The manager
Neal Ardley replaced the departed Michael Doyle a month ago. Ardley is most notably known for his long reigns at AFC Wimbledon and Notts County. The 52-year-old was most recently with York City.
