It’s been only five weeks since Fleet and Boston met after a 42-year gap and now they do it all again as Josh Wright’s side head out on the road for the first time in 2025.
Form guide
As was the case when the two sides met in November, Boston United sit one place above the Fleet in the National League, six points ahead and with a total of three wins throughout this 2024/25 campaign. Boston have played only two league matches since the 0-0 draw at the Fleet, both 1-0 defeats. The Pilgrims have, however, been successful in the FA Trophy after recently knocking out high-flying Gateshead by 3-1, the hosts having switched the game from Gateshead to Stockton Town.
Last time out
It was a goalless affair at the Kuflink Stadium (pictured below) in the reverse fixture with neither side clinical enough to break the deadlock. Fleet’s last visit to Boston was a 2-2 draw in February 1982 at their former York Street stadium.
Who’s who
Tom Donaghy is a 21-year-old Fleetwood Town goalkeeper recently arrived at the Jakemans Community Stadium following a recent loan spell with Hereford. Boston’s usual No.1 Cameron Gregory is on the injury list and Aidan Stone who played at the Kuflink Stadium in November, has returned to parent club Notts County.
Defender and skipper Michael Bostwick played for the Fleet in our FA Trophy-winning 2007/08 season, scoring the crucial goal in the semi-final second leg at Aldershot. The 36-year-old joined the Pilgrims last season and enjoyed promotion with the side following his arrival from Stevenage. He was injured for his visit back to the Fleet but gets the chance to face his old side this weekend.
Thirty-year-old striker Jacob Hazel is Boston’s top scorer this season with six goals in 23 appearances. Arriving from Darlington ahead of last season, Hazel was a huge factor in the Pilgrims promotion push securing five goals in 17 games.
Boston have also just brought in Lincoln City midfielder Oisin Gallagher until the end of the season on loan, with previous experience in the National North at Peterborough Sports.
The manager
Graham Coughlan took over in November following the departure of promotion-winning boss Ian Culverhouse. Previously manager of Newport County and Bristol Rovers, the 50-year-old will take charge of his ninth game for the Pilgrims this Saturday.
