Preview: Yeovil Town

It’s a new ground for Fleet fans as Huish Park hosts the National League champions of the past two seasons. And it’s a first away trip to Yeovil since 1981 (the visit on the opening day of the 2002/03 season having been played at Dorchester Town).

Last time out
Newly promoted Yeovil Town picked up their first win of the season on Saturday when they travelled to fellow South promoted side Braintree Town and won it with a single goal, having lost by the same score on the opening day at home to Hartlepool.

Previous affairs
Mark Bentley and Jimmy Jackson were on the scoresheet as newly promoted Fleet drew 2-2 against the eventual champions back in August 2002. The last meeting of the sides saw the Glovers visit the Kuflink Stadium early in the 2019/20 season following their relegation from the Football League. They won that 3-1, with the reverse fixture in March postponed due to the pandemic.

Recent arrivals
Harvey Greenslade has joined the Glovers from Bristol Rovers. The 20-year-old centre forward has spent previous loan spells at Oxford City, Truro City and Chippenham Town. Alongside Greenslade are ex-Torquay duo, defensive midfielder Brett McGavin and striker Aaron Jarvis. Graduating from the Ipswich Town academy ranks, McGavin joined Torquay back in 2022 where he went on to make 74 appearances for the Gulls. Key signing Jarvis arrives at Huish Park having bagged 24 goals in 56 appearances for the Gulls and he has also had spells at Scunthorpe United and Sutton United.

The manager
Mark Cooper arrived at Yeovil Town in 2022 and secured promotion back to the National League at their first attempt. Experienced former Exeter City and Tamworth player Cooper has also managed the likes of Barrow, Forest Green and Swindon Town.
