Preview: Welling United

The final away friendly and penultimate pre-season fixture takes place at Park View Road this evening as the Fleet head into the final week of preparation before the 2024/25 Vanarama National League campaign begins.

It’s a four out of five success rate for the Fleet so far in July with League One opponents Cambridge United turning in a strong second-half display to deny Danny Searle’s men on Saturday.

As far as Welling United are concerned, they traveled to a previous Fleet opposition in Cray Valley Paper Mills where the Millers came out on top thanks to a 2-1 win. Elsewhere, Welling have beaten Sittingbourne, Erith & Belvedere and Bishop’s Stortford, lost to Dover and picked up a draw against a Leyton Orient XI.

The last time the Fleet travelled to Park View Road was during the title-winning campaign (pictured above) after we had already been crowned champions and the Wings secured the three points in a hard-fought match.

Managed by former Chelmsford boss Rod Stringer with ex-Fleet manager Kevin Watson as his assistant, Welling pulled off a late escape from relegation last season. This season they have recruited players including our former skipper Dave Winfield while 2020/21 Fleet striker Reece Grant moved to Welling in February.

Tickets for tonight’s clash can be purchased here with prices at £10 for adults and £5 for U18s
