Fleet’s Wright-hand man stays for third season

Josh Wright will be in red and white again for 2024/25 after he agreed a new deal for the forthcoming Vanarama National League campaign to take him into his third season at the Kuflink Stadium.

Wright missed only one league match throughout last season, playing a huge part as the Fleet consolidated their status in the National League and he also took on the captaincy role for much of the latter half of the campaign.

What staying up meant to the skipper and his boss last month!

The former England youth international has racked up experience through more than 400 games in the EFL for the likes of Gillingham, Millwall and Leyton Orient before he made the move to Stonebridge Road in 2022, winning the National South title in his first season.

Wright told FleetTV of his decision to return to the club: “There was no denying it and it was evident how much I have loved my time here. I settled in straight away and I found the love [for football] again. It would be different if I had felt like I had nothing to give but I do; I still feel very fresh and young in my ways and the club feels like a home to me and my family. I want to stay here as long as possible and as long as I can keep playing, so it was no debate for me [to sign again].”
