Cousins making his mark for third season

Fleet goalkeeper Mark Cousins will be back at the Kuflink Stadium for a third season as the supporters’ player of the year signed a new deal with the club ahead of 2024/25.

Arriving at the Fleet in summer 2022, Cousins played a huge role in the club’s title-winning campaign in his first year, keeping 20 clean sheets in a record-breaking season.

Last season, the experienced goalkeeper performed brilliantly to take the player of the year award – the sixth goalkeeper to do so at the Fleet – and added another piece of history as his 95th minute headed equaliser at York City saw him become the first No.1 to score for the club in 77 years of our existence.

Cousins scored against York and was inches away from repeating the feat in the next game v former club Bromley

The 37-year-old will now continue his National League adventure having played previously for Bromley, Barnet and Dagenham & Redbridge in this division.

Speaking to FleetTV, Cousins explained how rewarding it was for him to be voted player of the year by supporters. “From day one the fans have been brilliant towards me and my family. They’re such a nice bunch of people. Even through the tough times, they have stuck by the team and myself so it was very special for me to pick that award up at the end of the season and hopefully I can repay them with good performances next season.”
