ENGLAND C LOSE 6-2 TO BOSNIA IN SARAJEVO AFTER A NIGHTMARE JOURNEY
England’s C team, featuring three Fleet players in the squad – Lance Cronin, Luke Moore and James Smith – lost 6-2 in Sarajevo’s Grbavica Stadium this afternoon but can partly blame their defeat on an atrocious pre-match preparation. The squad touched down in the Bosnian capital 24 hours late following two abortive attempts to fly from Vienna after their original connecting flight had been cancelled. The squad were forced to take a plane instead to Split in Croatia and they then endured a six-hour coach journey to Sarajevo.
All three Fleet players featured in the starting 11 and played the full 90 minutes with Luke Moore (left, in action) netting England’s first goal on 58 minutes, though by that time his side were already 4-0 down. England’s other goal was scored by Oxford’s Matt Day.
The home side took the lead on six minutes, Bogicevic converting past Cronin, while Zizovic (25), Savic (30) and Selimovic (43) put the Bosnians out of sight by half-time. Bekric and Tosunovic made the game even safer late on after Day’s goal had briefly brought the England side to within two goals of their opponents.
