Cousins joins the Fleet family

Ebbsfleet United are pleased to announce the signing of experienced goalkeeper Mark Cousins from Bromley.

Standing 6ft 2in, the keeper made his League debut in the Championship with Colchester United in 2007 after progressing through the club’s youth ranks, going on to play 70 games  in the League for the Essex side before a move to Dagenham & Redbridge in 2014.

Cousins played for the Daggers in League Two and the National League for four years, helping them into the 2016/17 play-offs, and featured at Goodison Park in an FA Cup game against Everton. He repeated the FA Cup heroics with a year as Barnet’s No.1 in 2018/19 where he shut out Championship side Sheffield United in the Bees’ run to the Fourth Round.

Bromley paid a fee for the ‘keeper that summer to take him to Hayes Lane, where he built a reputation as an excellent shot-stopper and one of the consistently standout goalkeepers in the National League, featuring between the posts as the Ravens made the play-offs for the first time.

As part of the squad that won the FA Trophy at Wembley in May, the 35-year-old was offered a new contract by Bromley but instead arrives at the Fleet as one of Dennis Kutrieb’s newest recruits for the 2022/23 season.

The goalkeeper told the club website in his first interview [to follow] that, “I’ve played a lot at Bromley, Barnet and Dagenham over the past few years and when you get to a certain age in this game, you want to play games and enjoy your football. But you also want to achieve things and that’s why Ebbsfleet has attracted me, to be part of a team that’s aiming for promotion and kicking on to another level. That’s why I’m here.”
