Ebbsfleet United are pleased to announce today the signing of Corey Whitely from Dagenham & Redbridge for an undisclosed fee.
The player signed terms at the Kuflink Stadium following a meeting with Dean Pooley and Daryl McMahon and has travelled with the squad ahead of Saturday’s trip to FC Halifax Town. The players will be stopping off at Sheffield United’s training ground where Whitely will take part in a session with his new teammates.
The 26-year-old, who is equally comfortable in an attacking midfield role or playing from wide areas, has been at Dagenham since 2016 and won player of the year last season as well as being featured in the National League team of 2016/17.
He joined from Enfield Town where he was also player of the year, for two seasons running, scoring 55 goals and providing 27 assists in the Ryman League. He was also named in that league’s team of the year in both 2013 and 2015.
A former Tottenham schoolboy, he has also represented Waltham Forest and Cheshunt and in 2015/16 scored 27 goals with seven assists from just 47 appearances for Enfield.
His first season at Dagenham, in addition to the above-named awards, also saw him claim player of the month on three occasions together with 16 goals and nine assists in his first experience at National League level.
During this campaign, he got off to a flying start, netting eight times in 10 games, one of them against the Fleet, and providing four assists. Such form saw Dagenham reject a bid from a Sky Bet League One side only last month and Daryl McMahon is naturally delighted to have captured the player.
“We’ve really put in the hours trying to secure players,” McMahon said, “but I’ve always maintained I wanted the right ones and Corey fits the bill. He’s an exciting player with a great couple of seasons behind him that I hope he’ll build on here at Ebbsfleet.”
Corey will wear squad number 28. You can view a highlights reel via YouTube link below…
