Macca wants more of “the drive to win”

Daryl McMahon rated his side’s performance at Woking as up there amongst the best displays of the season.

“We were very, very good,” he said, speaking exclusively to Charles Webster. “We created some good chances and the shape worked well tonight, the effort and commitment of the players, the drive to win is what you want to see.

“I think it was a good performance against a good side and to be fair to Garry [Hill], he came back at the end there and said we deserved to win which is nice of him and he came into the changing rooms to say congratulations to the players as well.”

Now the Fleet manager has challenged his side to repeat the spirit and work ethic of that 90 minutes across the back end of the season. “The performance to me is everything,” McMahon enthused. “I just said to them in there that I’ve got 11 players plus the lads who came on who are shattered in the changing room and if we work as hard as that every single game, we’ll win more than we lose, especially at our level. We know we’ve got quality in the group but we need to hit those levels week in, week out, especially going into the second half of the season. We’re not in a bad position.”

Kidderminster await in the next round but before that there are some vital league games; McMahon is excited about the FA Trophy opportunity nonetheless. “We’re looking forward to it. They’re obviously doing well, they’re second in their league and we’ll probably have a look at them after Christmas over the next few weeks. We’ll have them watched and look forward to the day out.

“We’ve got a big game on Saturday against Gosport and the stand’s open for the fans as well and then obviously we go into the Dartford games after that.”
