Boss urges quick turnaround of “difficult times”

Daryl McMahon highlighted the sending-off of Dave Winfield as the turning point in Monday’s night’s defeat at the Melbourne Stadium.

“I’d like to see it again,” he said of the sending-off in a post-match interview with Charles Webster. “I don’t think it was if I’m being honest, especially a straight red. He’s not gone in with any real malice.

“Before the sending-off we were the team in the ascendancy. I just always felt if we could hang on in there, we’d have one chance with 10 men and we never really got that chance. We’ve got to keep on working hard. These are the difficult times in football  when we’ve been used to winning, used to playing well and at the minute we’re not. I think we need to very quickly turn it around.”

And the boss urged the Fleet faithful to keep backing his players on the pitch.

“The fans have travelled again brilliantly tonight and they’ve sung for the boys but they’ve got to stick with the players. They worked ever so hard and they will do well for the club.”
