Defender Clark joins the Community team

Since taking over the club in 2013, we have tried to forge better and more active links with the local community and hopefully we can show that we have had a measure of success in this. I, for one, have certainly met some great people giving of their time to improve the lives of the residents of Northfleet and the wider Gravesham Borough. During last season I realised that we needed to take the next step in our Community engagement plan and that meant some additional resource to represent the Fleet when my diary did not allow this. As part of the close season discussions, Peter Varney and I were able to create a role that offered a member of the current squad the opportunity to work alongside me (around training commitments) on Community Projects. I am delighted to be able to announce that EUFC’s very own Mr Concrete, Kenny Clark, has accepted a role assisting me in promoting the Fleet in the Community.

One of the new Community Partners that we are both hoping to get to know better is the Lower Thames Unit of the Maritime Volunteer Service who took a stand at our last Community Day. The MVS are a recognised national maritime training organisation and registered charity who aim to reach out, in particular, to disabled young people to give them opportunities and life skills that they might otherwise struggle to access. Kenny and I will be attending a drill evening with the Lower Thames Unit on Tuesday, 30th August at 19.30 at Gravesend Sailing Club where we hope to get a chance to join one of the Unit’s RIBs (rigid inflatable boats) out on the River Thames.

Kenny writes: “Although a little different from my usual footballing activities I am delighted to be able to work alongside Stuart helping the club reach out to the Community in as many ways as possible and making sure you are fully aware of the important projects that the club is supporting. I will take it in turns with Stuart to write the Community Matters notes in Fleet Review to keep you up to date with the various Community events in the pipeline.

“As a football club we have the power to bring people together and help make a difference in the Community. I believe it is important as players that we understand these aspects of our club. Football players at all levels are in a privileged position and we have the power to positively influence a wide range of people. We have the ability to inspire and motivate even the hardest to reach in our communities. Make sure to keep an eye out on the club website for regular updates on upcoming events projects. Thanks for your fantastic support as always. Up the Fleet!”
