Maidstone defeat sees Academy title going to the wire

Ebbsfleet United’s Academy side narrowly lost to title rivals Maidstone United yesterday afternoon, the Gallagher Stadium club winning 2-0 to complete the double over the Fleet.

That result, alongside a win also for Bromley yesterday, has blown the title race wide open with Fleet still top of the table by one point from Dover, both clubs having played the same number of games. Maidstone trail Fleet by two points with a game in hand, while Bromley are in fourth, three points behind but with two games in hand.

Fleet have four games left, including a visit to Dover (their next match on March 25) and a home match against Bromley to end the season, while the latter have to play both Dover and Maidstone in their run-in.

Fleet’s next game at Stonebridge Road is on April 15 against Thamesmead Town.
