With today marking Armistice Day in the 100th year since the First World War began, we have put online the various articles dedicated to former Northfleet United and Gravesend United players that ran in the pages of Fleet Review earlier this season.
The stories of William Kennedy (pictured), Edwin Myers, Roland Thorndike and Albert Hibbin – all of whom died in the conflict – can be found here, while we also look at two of the survivors (Charlie Buchan and Andy Wilson).
In Saturday’s programme versus Farnborough, we will also be retelling the story of how, 100 years ago to the day, Stonebridge Road closed its gates for the duration of the war and Northfleet United was effectively mothballed for more than four years.
On a related note, Paul Harrison is collating new material for histories of both Northfleet and Gravesend United. If you have any related memorabilia, however small or seemingly insignificant regarding either club, please do email details to [email protected]
