Vice chairman issues clarion call ahead of crunch matches

Vice chairman Peter Varney has called on Ebbsfleet United supporters to get behind Steve Brown and his team on Wednesday evening in the first leg of the Skrill South play-off semi-final and to raise the roof in support of the players.

Varney said, “There was a tremendous feeling around the stadium last Saturday against Dorchester and the 1,670 almost exclusively home supporters certainly created a brilliant atmosphere and the team delivered an emphatic 4-0 victory.

“Wednesday is the first of two ‘cup ties’ against Bromley that will shape our season. Bromley led the division for most of the season and are a very good side. The supporters can be our 12th man both on Wednesday and again next Saturday and it is very important that they get behind the players from the first to the last minute of both matches.

“The players on both sides will naturally feel a degree of tension because of what is at stake and, believe me, with the right positive support our fans can make a massive difference but it is also essential they are patient and do not let any tension they are feeling become a negative for the players.”

Fleet and Bromley couldn’t be much closer in terms of results this season, with a 0-0 draw in between a 4-1 FA Trophy victory for the Fleet and a 3-1 league win for Bromley at Stonebridge Road. The first leg is at home this coming Wednesday, with the second leg at Hayes Lane on Saturday.
