Fleet and Wombles draw stalemate as both sides reduced to 10 men…
The Fleet battled to a goalless draw at Kingsmeadow this afternoon, putting both teams into the hat for tomorrow?s second round draw.
The affair, which in actual fact offered a lot more than the score suggests, got off to a busy start with both keepers making decent stops to keep their sides in it, first from Edwards from Jolley early on, then from Brown to save a Michael West bullet free kick 10 minutes in.
The tie got sour on 35 minutes, Jolley late on Stone to see straight red. The teams were back on even numbers though 7 minutes later when Carew saw his second yellow for blocking a quick free kick, taken by ex Fleet striker Luke Moore.
The second half was a more one sided affair in favour of the Dons, but the Fleet did have chances to deny the Wombles a second bite of the cherry. Yussuff, Moore and Kedwell all went close for the home team, who were limited mostly to shots from outside the area, with Shakes and substitute Howe both spurning one on one opportunities to wrap it up for the Fleet.
The replay will take place at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday 16th November, meaning the originally scheduled game against Hampton and Richmond, itself rescheduled, will have to be moved once more.
