Last Saturday’s game against Dorchester Town was a strange match and one that should have been put to bed long before Billy Bricknell struck his second and our third goal in the 87th minute.

As a team we had enough chances to win three games and reflecting back on the match we could have comfortably scored seven goals at the weekend. The highlights are conclusive proof of that and Dorchester’s goalkeeper deservedly scooped the man of the match award even though he was sent off on 65 minutes.

We have to show more composure in front of goal and at times we seem too eager and rushed when confronted with an opportunity. In saying that the three goals we did score were all very clinical strikes and in some respects harder to finish than many of the other chances that were created!

It was pleasing to get our first three points and I feel that we have much more to come as a squad and as a team. Having watched the highlights from our last game against Maidenhead United, it was pleasing to see us start so well and the game could have been done and dusted inside 20 minutes but once again we found a keeper in excellent form who made three very good saves to keep the scoreline at 1-0.

The fitness levels of the players and the work ethic of the team were very pleasing and at times we countered in good numbers and at great speed. The only thing lacking was that little bit of extra quality in our final pass, shot or cross.

“To achieve success it takes a team to pull together across 10 months, and although I don’t expect players to be happy at being left out I do expect them to respect the decision made and pull for the players that are fortunate enough to be starting”

Tuesday night gave us the opportunity to give players that haven’t been playing a start and with seven changes and four full debuts it was extremely pleasing to see that the players that were given the shirt gave everything to firstly get the result and secondly stake a claim for a start today.

We started very much on the front foot and set a benchmark regarding tempo and pressure that we must want to match in every game. It was a very similar performance to the one we saw against Maidenhead United eight days before. The difference was we took our chances and raced into a 3-0 lead, which is always a nice position to be in.

I thought the quality of the strikes from Stacy and Tom were first class and we finally scored from a set piece which was very pleasing to see.

The players are well aware that we have a relatively big squad and at times will need to be patient for a chance to play but I want competition for places and I want the players to push each other. The bottom line is we all want to be successful and it should never be just about one person. To achieve success it takes a team to pull together across 10 months, and although I don’t expect players to be happy at being left out I do expect them to respect the decision made and pull for the players that are fortunate enough to be starting.

The support at Dorchester was first class and it was fantastic to see so many of you make the long journey there. We have a superb following and I will continue to make the point that you really do make a huge difference when you create an atmosphere and get behind the players.
