Mambo pursuit pays off for Brown

The Fleet have added further quality to their back line with the signing this afternoon of former loanee Yado Mambo to a squad that was earlier bolstered by the capture of Anthony Acheampong.

Alongside current club captain Paul Lorraine, central defender Mambo, 22, was a lynchpin of the Fleet side that finished 14th in the Conference Premier in 2011-12, having arrived on loan from Charlton, where he graduated from the Addicks’ youth academy. He played 27 times that season for the Fleet, scoring twice.

A four-year stay at The Valley, which ended in 2013, was punctuated with loan spells at Welling, Staines, Eastbourne and then a step up to the Football League with AFC Wimbledon and Shrewsbury Town.

After undergoing a knee operation in the summer, Fleet have been tracking the popular Mambo for some time and manager Steve Brown has fought off stiff competition to bring the player back to Stonebridge Road.
