Bonner appeal dismissed

The Football Association has dismissed Ebbsfleet United’s appeal for wrongful dismissal against Tom Bonner, who was sent off in the match against Hayes & Yeading United.

Having viewed video footage of the incident, club representatives felt they had a case to appeal, citing Bonner’s involvement as little more than attempting to placate the situation while himself surrounded by four opposition players.

However, in a letter to the club yesterday, the FA took the position to uphold the red card. The club has requested clarification on how they arrived at aย decision of violentย conduct after viewing the video since no explanation has been offered.

Vice chairman Peter Varney told FleetOnline, “We are naturally disappointed with the decision as we believe the video clearly shows that Tom Bonner did nothing that can be construed as violent conduct and he does not deserve this outcome.”

Bonner will now serve a four-match suspension, starting with next Saturday’s trip to Bath City and including the Kent Senior Cup semi-final against Charlton Athletic.
